Construction of the Great Blue Mountains Trail
We partnered with the Blue Mountains City Council and National Parks and Wildlife to design and construct the Great Blue Mountains trail from Leura Cascades to Kiah Lookout. The project concluded within six weeks and saw the completion of the proposed partially elevated walking track. The open mesh nature of the trail provides several ecological benefits and will have minimal impact on the surrounding roots and shrubs.

The scope of works included
- Before project commencement, we developed the elevated walkway design from a concept provided by the client
- Initial works involved the removal of vegetation from the surrounding area and cutting and clearing ironstone rock before the installation of swale water drainage
- Construction included the installation of piers to fix the elevated boardwalk into place with reinforced concrete for the footpaths
- Final works include the installation of balustrade fencing along sections of the boardwalk and general reinstatement of turf and seeds
The Results
We worked collaboratively with the client to design and construct a boardwalk while retaining the integrity of the surrounding nature scape. The project provided a safe walking trail for national park users to enjoy with minimal disruption to the environment, ultimately producing a happy outcome for all involved stakeholders.
