Darwin International Airport Apron Upgrade

We were contracted to assist in increasing the capability
and flexibility of the existing aircraft parking bays at Darwin
International Airport to cater for larger aircrafts, increasing
international and domestic services. With the upgrade of
apron slabs the project required the installation of new
aerobridges by contractor RATE.

The scope of works included

  • Initial works involved ground investigation and conduit route planning, followed by the field set out of conduit alignments
  • Construction saw trenching, installation of all the service conduits and pipes, and temporary pavement restoration
  • Permanent concrete pavement restoration was conducted after the completion of below ground words in any run or area. Restoration included kerb and gutter, asphalt mining and re-sheeting
  • Final works involved cable pulling, jointing, labelling, testing and similar with the inclusion of above ground conduits and bracket installations

The Results

The Darwin services relocation project, being in a brown field and operational environment, as per the company systems and project needs, was heavily planned and executed, with a project management team experienced in installation of services, airfields, operational environments, service connections and commissioning. The reconstruction of apron pavements allowed for the installation of new aerobridges accommodating the needs of a growing airport.
