Dairy Creek in Cromdale Street, Mortdale, experienced the detrimental effects of flooding. Antoun was commissioned to construct an additional draining culvert with embankment stabilisation, and road restoration works. The drainage upgrade aimed to reduce flooding in residential properties bordering the creek by increasing water discharge.
The scope of works included
- Initial works for the project included road closure, site clearing, demolition of the existing road and the relocation of Sydney water assets
- Antoun installed a pre-cast concrete culvert adjacent to the existing structure to increase water flow in the creek
- Construction included the installation of a two-course gabion wall as well as sandstone boulders for increased embankment stabilisation and reduced flooding
- Finishing works involved road reinstatement, new concrete pedestrian footpaths and kerb with suitable landscaping in the surrounding area
Antoun worked collaboratively with the client and residents due to restricted site conditions, and newsletter updates were distributed to all stakeholders. The culvert increased stormwater capacity, mitigating flooding risk and embankment erosion. The project was a quality engineering solution where local relations were proudly built.
