M5 Expedient Slab Replacements
This project involved the replacement of failed concrete slabs on a busy section of the M5 Motorway during lane closure windows of 9pm and 4am. The lanes needed to be reopened immediately after these hours, requiring Antoun to complete the project using CTS Rapid Setting Concrete
Location:
M5 Motorway, NSW
Budget:
$1m – $2m
Duration:
1 night
The scope of works included
- Replacement of failed concrete slabs on the M5 Motorway underneath the Moorebank Avenue Bridge in accordance with RMS slab replacement specifications
- Saw-cutting and removing the existing slabs to a depth of 240mm
- Installing 36mm dowels spaced at 400mm to a depth of 300mm into the adjacent slabs using a three gang Minnich pneumatic drill at a rate of 15 seconds per dowel
The results
Using Rapid Setting CTS cement delivered from a volumetric concrete mixing truck, we were able to reconstruct the slabs within the timeframes and have the highway reopened to traffic after only 1 hour. The concrete, finished with a 4m roller screed, was able to reach seven day 5Mpa flexural strength within 24hrs of placement.
